She lived most of her life in Jonesborough and was a daughter of the late Roscoe and Mima Phillips.
Athleen was a homemaker and member of Pentecost Independent Freewill Baptist Church, Kinsgport.
She loved reading her bible. Athleen enjoyed working in her flower garden. She liked to cook and sew for her family. Athleen never met a stranger and she loved talking to everyone! Shopping was one of her favorite things to do.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-eight years, Lattie Franklin on March 1, 1997; one grandson, Michael Keith Franklin; three brothers: Lloyd Phillips, Guy Phillips and Floyd “Jack” Phillips; one sister, Josie Roberts.
Athleen leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons: Michael R. Franklin, Danny Franklin and wife, Carlene; two daughters: Michelle Franklin and Melanie Franklin, all of Jonesborough; one brother, Ed Phillips and wife, Lynda, Unicoi; two sisters: Alma Fender, Erwin and Elva Harris, Johnson City; four grandchildren: Allen Hicks, Charley Ryans, Kaitlyn Franklin and Ethan Franklin; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Entombment service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the Washington County Memory Garden Mausoleum. Reverend Charlie Byrd and Reverend Eddie McAmis will officiate. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in memory of Athleen to: Pentecost Independent Freewill Baptist Church, C/O Linda McClain, 369 Oak Glen, Fall Branch, TN 37656.
