He was a member of Smithwood Baptist Church, a World War II US Army paratrooper and combat veteran having served in the South Pacific theatre during the war. He was retired from L & N Railroad after more than 30 years of service. Jake was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed tying flies, building fly rods, and anything to do with trout fishing. He also enjoyed wood working in his work shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Joslin Loy; siblings, William Loy, Vivian Omary, Trula Gerhersky, and younger brother, Ray Loy.
Survivors: wife of 69 years, Katherine Ray Loy; son, Tim Loy; bonus daughter, Liza Graves; and several very special nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to, Dr. Michael Ayres, Dr. James Rivers, Gayla Smith, Becky Phillips, Gayla Davis, and the many friends who helped him on his journey thru life. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway. The family and friends will meet 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery for a graveside service and interment at 1:00 p.m. Full military honors will be performed by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
