He was born in Flag Pond and lifelong resident of Unicoi County. Otis is a son of the late Walter and Minta Ayers Ray.
He was a truck driver and mechanic for many years at Dreicor before his retirement. Otis attended Sweetwater Church of God.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and squirrel hunting. Also, Otis was a very skilled carpenter using precision with all his measurements and angles. One of his favorite pass times was going to the Clinchfield Senior Center and playing pool with his friends. He looked forward to hanging out with his friends at the Center and treasured his time there.
In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Ray and one sister, Ruby Runion.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons: Tim Ray, Erwin, Gary Ray and wife, Cheryl, Jonesborough; one brother, Ronnie Ray and wife, Christine, Erwin; two grandsons: Garrison and Gabriel Ray; one granddaughter, Bailee Bateman and one great granddaughter, Adah-layne Ray Bateman; several nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. service. Committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Ray Family Cemetery, Ray Road, Flag Pond. Pallbearers will be Jerry Clouse, Marty Shelton, Will Ray, Jerry Ray, John Miller and Bill Ayers. Honorary pallbearers will be Garrison Ray, Gabriel Ray and Robert Hall. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:30 A.M. on Saturday.
Flowers will be accepted however, those wishing may make memorial contributions in memory of Otis to: Clinchfield Senior Center, 220 Union Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
