He was a native of Erwin, but lived most of his life in Orlando, FL before moving to Jonesborough over twenty years ago. Jimmy was a son of the late Grover and Hazel Huskins Elliott.
He retired as a MS1 Cook from the United States Navy after twenty years of service. Jimmy received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. Jimmy was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Elliott; four sisters: Lorraine Fanning, Mary Ruth Saffold, Janice Faye Street and Mae Belle Riddle; son-in-law, Ken Dawes; brother-in-law, R. C. Street.
Jimmy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his ex-wife and best friend, Jill Lee, Johnson City; two sons: Jim Elliott, Jr. (Mary Ann), Tommy Sherman Elliott (Vicki), all of Orlando; three daughters: Kim Dawes and Tommy, Johnson City, Debbie Gentile and Bob, Cape Canaveral, FL, Tracy Bates (Charlie), Jonesborough; one brother, Eugene Elliott (Sherry), Johnson City; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dewey Ward will officiate at the 8:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Committal service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday in the McInturff Cemetery (Rock Creek). Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
