JOHNSON CITY - Shirley Shepherd Jones, 67, Johnson City, passed away after a courageous battle of cancer on Monday, September 18, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

A lifelong resident of Johnson City, she was the daughter to the late Oscar "Jerry" Shepherd and Addie Chloe Brooks Shepherd. Shirley was a 1968 graduate of Jonesborough High School where she was the valedictorian of her class. Immediately following her high school graduation she began working at Eastman Chemical Company. She loved her work and co-workers. She retired after 48 years of service. Shirley was known by most for her kindness to others, hard work, and always thinking of others before herself. Her success in life was not about what she accomplished, but what she encouraged others to do in their accomplishments. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her niece, Laura Shepherd.

She is survived by her “significant other” of 30 years, Sam Fitzpatrick; brother, Jerry (Dee) Shepherd, Eustis, FL; sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Barnett, Elizabethton, and Darlene (Ronnie) Stout, Limestone; nieces and nephews, Lynne Shepherd, Dionne (Ted) Ganger, Doug (Tracie) Shepherd, Jason (Lindsay) Barnett; and several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Laura, Jerry, Pandora, Sonya, and all the staff at Amedisys of Elizabethton for their care, love, and support shown to Shirley and their entire family during their time of need.

The family will receive friends to share memories from 2:00 PM until a Celebration of Shirley’s Life at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 284 Mount Zion Church Rd, Jonesborough, TN 37659, with Pastor Kevin Morris officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Mr. Bryan Head.
