Local child makes big screen debut over weekend

As the youngest of six children, 12-year-old Jeremy Taylor was always the center of attention, according to his mother.

But it never occurred to him or his family that one day, he’d be on the big screen.

A resident of Bluff City, Jeremy made his big screen debut this weekend in his role in ’Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip’. Although Jeremy is credited in other movies like ’42’ and ’Ant-Man’, he said this is the first time his scenes have made it to theaters, which he described as a great feeling.

“When I was little I was watching all these movies and I never would have thought that I was gonna be on that screen,” Jeremy said.

Jeremy’s acting career began when he was 8 while his mother, Tracy Taylor, was managing a band in Nashville. Being the youngest, Jeremy traveled with his mother a lot, and that’s when a talent developer noticed Jeremy’s knack for performing. The family got in touch with an agent, and Jeremy’s budding acting career launched.

“It is kind of surreal as a mom,” Taylor said. “You raise six children and one of them ends up on the big screen.”

Jeremy hasn’t only done movies — he’s appeared in commercials for Cartoon Network and Disney’s Dreamworks, and has screen time in the “Wreck the Halls” trailer video for ’Alvin and the Chipmunks.’ He said he does most of his filming in Nashville and Atlanta, but he recently returned from filming a television pilot in Los Angeles.

The pilot, Jeremy said, isn’t going to premier, but he’s not too upset about it because it doesn’t take away from his favorite part of acting – meeting new people. Throughout his time on movie sets so far, Jeremy has met plenty of crew members and actors including Harrison Ford and Paul Rudd.

His favorite part, though, also plays into some of the tougher parts of his job, as he remembers his time on the set of ’Ant-Man’.

“I had to bully this little girl and it was hard because she was really, really cute and she was really nice,” Jeremy said with a laugh.

And as for his role in ’Alvin and the Chipmunks’?

Jeremy didn’t want to spoil the movie too much, but revealed his character is a scheming one who plots against the heroes of the movie. Curious movie-goers will have to sit down for the film to see how it all plays out.

Jeremy’s career is only beginning, and even though his Hollywood debut was unexpected, he said he feels it’s where he wants to take the rest of his life. He’s set some goals for his career like working with Kevin James or maybe being in a ’Star Wars’ movie.

“I really think this will be a job that I’m going to do for a long time,” Jeremy said. “God gave me (talent) and I'm gonna use it.”
