Three of the biggest events of the year take place Sunday with the Formula One’s Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600.

There are preliminary events for each of those marquee races, while the local scene will be hopping this weekend as well. Whether you’re traveling to Charlotte, Indy or staying close to home, it promises to be an exciting weekend for the race fan.

If you’re more a fan of short-track action, Kingsport Speedway is hosting Ford Street Car night where fans can drive their Ford cars on the 3/8-mile concrete oval between 7:30 and 8 p.m. before the night’s first races begin.

There will be Chevrolet and Mopar nights later in the schedule.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be headlined by a 60-lap Late Model Stock feature. The Mod Street, Mod 4, Pure Street and Pure 4 divisions will also be in action.

The dirt tracks have big racing programs scheduled for Saturday night.

Volunteer Speedway has six divisions: Crate Late Model, Sportsman Late Model, Open Wheel Modified, Modified Street, Classic and Mini Stock.

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. Hot laps start at 7 p.m., followed by qualifying and racing.

Clay Valley Speedway, formerly Lonesome Pine Raceway, in Coeburn, Virginia, has Mountain Mayhem scheduled for Saturday. It features a $2,000-to-win American Crate All-Star Series and a $1,500-to-win for the Mid-East Modified Tour.

Bristol Motor Speedway is getting ready for the Short Track U.S. Nationals on May 31 and June 1.

There will be four classes headlined by the Super Late Models. The Pro Late Models, Street Stocks and Compacts will also be in action.

The DER Bracket Racing Series has a test-and-tune scheduled at Bristol Dragway on Friday. It’s followed by a whole weekend of racing action.

It’s also less than one month until the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals on Father’s Day weekend, June 14-16.

The ATV MX Spring National is scheduled for Muddy Creek Raceway. Friday is a practice day with racing on Saturday and Sunday.
