Bristol, Tennessee, kicked off its 23rd annual Sounds of Summer concert series last week, but there’s plenty of local live music still on the schedule.

The popular series was rebranded in 2018, placing a stronger focus on local acts with variety of sounds. In addition to regional bands like Turkey Creek, Cedar Valley, Phantom, and High Test Grass, tributes to some of music’s biggest legends are also slated for the season, setting the stage for a diverse offering of free music events in downtown Bristol this summer.

“Music is a big part of our culture here in Bristol. We’re home to countless songwriters, musicians, and even producers in addition to being a community full of general lovers of music,” said Terry Napier, Director of Parks and Recreation, the department that oversees many of the music events that take place downtown.

“It is one of the biggest things that comes to mind for most visitors, and there is hardly a night when music can’t be found in one of our many downtown venues,” he continued.

"We are really excited about our lineup this year. Whether you like bluegrass, rock, or even our tribute acts featuring music by Hank Williams Jr., Billy Joel, and Elton John, there is truly something for everyone,” said Angie Rutherford, Recreation programmer, whose job it is to book bands each year. She added, "Head on downtown, and you will hear some of the best music this side of Nashville."
