Sunday’s sale is an all-you-can-carry sale, in which people pay $5 for as many books and media items as they can fit in a bag. There will be paper grocery bags available for people who do not bring their own.
This year’s sale will feature a “Weightiest Tome” contest with prizes; people who purchase $25 all-you-can-carry Friends of the Library tote bags can weigh their full bags at checkout. People with the heaviest bags from Saturday and Sunday will win prizes. At the end of the weekend, the contest winners will be announced on Facebook and notified about prize details.
The annual sale includes thousands of donated books, audiobooks, DVDs and music albums. Kathy Hall, Friends of the Johnson City Public Library board president, says, “I love the Friends sale because there are always treasures to be discovered. Nothing makes book lovers happier than finding something they love that they didn’t even know they were looking for.”
Along with finding hidden gems, the sale offers people a chance to support their community library. All proceeds from the sale go to furthering the library’s work.
In addition to the Saturday and Sunday sales, Friends of the Library members are invited to a special preview sale on Friday, April 26 from 6-8 p.m. Friends of the Library is a volunteer group committed to the welfare and promotion of the library through financial contributions and fundraisers. People can become a Friends member at any of the weekend sales; the annual membership fee is $15 for an individual and $25 for a family.
