Ann Meisinger of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will deliver a juror’s talk at East Tennessee State University Thursday, Feb. 21, in conjunction with the closing reception for the “Positive/Negative 34 National Juried Art Exhibition” at Slocumb Galleries.

The reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the Slocumb Galleries in Ball Hall, followed by the lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Ball Hall auditorium.

“To Make Art Now” is the theme of this year’s exhibition, for which Meisinger served as juror, selecting works in a variety of media by 31 artists from across the United States. Since 1985, the “Positive/Negative” exhibition has provided access to dynamic and innovative contemporary practices that explore current directions in visual art.

Meisinger is an independent curator and assistant educator in Public Programs and Creative Practice at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In addition to her juror’s lecture, Meisinger’s visit to ETSU includes student mentorship, studio critiques and a seminar workshop on “Developing Community Engagement and Public Educational Programming” on Friday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. at the Reece Museum.

Her appearance at ETSU is sponsored by the ETSU Department of Art and Design and Slocumb Galleries in partnership with the Women’s Studies Program, Reece Museum, Honors College and Slocumb Galleries student societies, Student Government Association, Student Photography Association, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

These events are free and open to the public.
