Netflix has leaned into original content over the past few years, leading to some of the most popular television shows available to stream, like “Stranger Things,” “House of Cards,” and “Orange is the New Black.”

However, feature length movies and series are not its only recent bout of success. Another investment that Netflix took on — and which took off — was its selection of stand-up comedy specials.

Fun for the whole family:

“Brian Regan: Nunchucks and Flamethrowers”

Brian Regan has been entertaining audiences for over two decades. “Nunchucks and Flamethrowers” He may be the only person to can make the scoring system the game of tennis to be something that has audiences doubled over with laughter.

In the special directed by Troy Miller, Regan manages turns the script on audiences by setting up a joke and hitting it hard into left field. This is evident by the way he starts a political joke and managed to turn it into a dad joke that veers in a less obvious direction, but incredibly funny.

This hour-long special is rated TV-PG.

Funny women:

“Iliza Shlesinger: War Paint” and “Ali Wong: Baby Cobra”

Iliza Shlesinger first came into the spotlight when she won NBC’s comedy competition, “Last Comic Standing” in 2008. Since then, she’s skyrocketed and this year released her third Netflix Special, “Elder Millennial.” Viewers can watch her growth as a professional comedian starting with “War Paint” then in “Confirmed Kills” before her most recent release. Her comedy mostly focuses on being a woman, the crazy aspects of her life and being an “elder” millennial. Each special is available currently on Netflix and is for mature audiences.

Another comedian of note is the undeniably funny comedian Ali Wong. Taking the stage in both comedy specials very, very pregnant, Wong talks relationships, pregnancy and her Asian heritage in a way that has audiences crying tears of laughter. With her signature red glasses and pregnant belly clad in loud prints, Wong holds nothing back. Nothing is off the table in her side-splitting stand-up hours for mature audiences only. For those who crave more after “Baby Cobra,” Wong’s second special, “Hard Knock Wife” is also available to stream on Netflix. Honorable Mention in this category: any stand up material by Ellen Degeneres.

Just plain funny:

“John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City Music Hall”

John Mulaney has been on the comedy scene for a while now and “Kid Gorgeous,” (2018) is only his most recent of his three comedy specials available on Netflix. A grown man, this former “Saturday Night Live,” writer laments his appearance and tells wild stories about his childhood all from the magnificent stage at Radio City Music Hall. For mature audiences as well, “The Comeback Kid,” and “New in Town,” are the two other specials available to stream.

When you’re left wanting more, check out Mulaney in, “Oh Hello! On Broadway.” John Mulaney teams up with Nick Kroll to tackle the Broadway stage as old men in a hilarious original play that is worth at least a viewing.

Honorable Mention

“Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”

Though not technically a stand-up special, this Netflix original follows Jerry Seinfeld in short episodes as he picks up famous comedians and other celebrities in vintage cars and takes them to get coffee. Some of his guests include Kate McKinnon, Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Mel Brooks, Jim Carrey and even Barack Obama during his time as President of the United States.
