Removing bridge violates safety
Pete Peterson’s quotes in your As We See It are amazing. He said “our first priority is to make sure people are safe.”
Excuse me. Did the bridge deteriorate overnight?
What Johnson City needs is a “planning commission” that can look at its infrastructure and plan for upgrades. The bridge keeps people safe. Walking across one of the more heavily travelled intersections is unsafe.
Thank you for putting officers there during a few hours a day, but is taking them off patrol keeping the city safe? What a fiasco.
Then he said we “might end up with another landmark …” that “makes everyone forget about the bridge.” Not on your political career.
The bridge serves the community in a myriad of ways including school drop-off, reducing congestion and increasing safety at the school, safe crossing for people living in the high density housing area nearby, safe passage and parking for events such as 4th of July, where seemingly thousands used the bridge to cross the highway, etc.
Forget the landmark business. Build a functional, safe bridge that keeps the citizens safe, the cops on patrol, and reduces congestion at the school and during Freedom Hall events. Then monitor it and keep it from falling into disrepair.

Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
The spirit of witchcraft is a spirit of domination and control. The media, including this newspaper, has practiced this for many years now.
The alligator clamps down on his prey and twists and turns, repeating the action until death occurs. You grab any word that could possibly be twisted, you turn it over and over until the minds of your readers think it is truth.
You hate what cannot be dominated and seek to destroy it.
I have watched you work. I have not bought your lies. When I saw Donald Trump give as good as he got when Megan Kelly asked that insipid, smirking question in the first debate, I knew how I would vote.
I pray every day that God will reveal your nasty game to the world.
Taco comments too spicy
Sunday's edition (July 22) featured a nice photo of Donald J. Trump eating a taco bowl on May 5 with a huge smile. This happy photo was ruined by the accompanying article of hate from compulsive liar Laura Esquivel.
"Trump is so stupid that he doesn't know how to make corn tortillas, he is so stupid that he doesn't know how important corn is in Central America, he is so stupid that he has no compassion for people, he is so stupid that he thinks they celebrate May 5 in Mexico," she goes on and on with her moronic assumptions. She actually gets paid to be this stupid.
Trump went to the Wharton School of Business. I was an honor student in high school, but knew it was futile to apply to the most prestigious business school in the world.
There was a time when liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, discussed and debated ideas with civility and were friends before the debate and friends after the debate. The violent crazy hateful left, which runs the Democratic Party and the media, have put that to bed a long time ago.
If you want to discuss tax cuts, you hate women. If you want to discuss immigration, you are a racist. If you want to get along with Russia, you are Adolf Hitler. If you are invited to The View to discuss your new book which is No. 1 on Amazon and NYT best sellers list, you are screamed at for 30 minutes by left-wing freak Whoopi Goldberg.
Destroying free speech is not a winner for the Democratic Party — you are not fooling us, and if you continue, you will never win an election again.
