5 questions with a Johnson City transplant: Why she loves Johnson City

Meet Stacey Sanford, a Johnson City transplant who moved to the area 12 years ago from West Florida.

Sanford is a big fan of the outdoors and likes everything about it. Whether it’s hiking, kayaking or just walking in the park, Sanford loves it.

Aside from the constant threat of hurricanes, Sanford moved up to Johnson City because her town was getting too crowded. She said with all the people transplanting from St. Petersburg, Florida, she decided it was best to leave.

When she’s not hanging out with her grandchildren, Stacey can be found working at Jim’s Motorcycle Apparel, where she’s worked for the past four years after the owner asked her to come work for him. She said her favorite part about working at Jim’s is seeing the kids who ride dirt bikes come in with their families.

Favorite Movie: “‘Mary Poppins’, but I like the ‘Wizard of Oz’ too,” she said as her grandson accused her of stealing his favorite movie.

Hobbies: Hiking, arts and crafts

How would you describe yourself to your family and friends?

Fun and energetic. And adventurous! I’m very adventurous.

What’s your favorite part about living in Johnson City?

The mountains! And [Founders] Park, now. It’s awesome and I’m glad we made it.

What’s one thing to do that you’d recommend to somebody who’s new to Johnson City?

Going to the park. And enjoying all of the of the festivals that are here, of course.

What’s your favorite season?

Spring. [Because of] all of the pretty flowers starting to bloom, the birds, the rabbits and the weather.

If you could pack up and move anywhere in the world, where would it be?
