NeTREP seeking input for outdoor development roadmap

The Northeast Tennessee Economic Partnership has hired a consultant to create a regional Outdoor Development Plan to guide future planning efforts, and the public is encouraged to provide input during a series of meetings next week.

Outdoor recreational consulting firm GreenPlay, LLC, will conduct nine listening sessions during the course of five days next week. The group will arrange 15-to-20-minute interviews for anyone who cannot participate in the public meetings.

“What we aim to do now is create a regional outdoor development roadmap for success. At this point, we are not sure what success means for our collaborative. We want the community to help us define that success,” NeTREP Outdoor Development Manager Kayla Carter said.

“Through the upcoming listening tour, we are inviting outdoor enthusiasts and community leaders to come give us ideas and input on the direction we need to take our outdoor development program for the next three-to-five years.

“We want to know where our energy is best applied in order to support the needs and wants from the communities we want to serve.”

Ideally, Carter said they would like to see teams working collaboratively toward implementing projects that encourage economic growth in the outdoor industry, as well as promoting stewardship and volunteerism.

These listening and interview sessions will be the first of many steps that GreenPlay takes during the next few months to gather information.

“There will also be other digital opportunities to weigh in, so there’s no need to worry if someone is unable to attend one of these meetings or interviews,” Carter said. “In the end, we hope to have a clear path to success that balances promotion with protection of our natural capital.”

Each focus group meeting will last no more than 1.5 hours. GreenPlay will ask each group a series of questions related to current and future creational needs.

Anyone interested in attending must RSVP by either calling Carter at 423-430-2830 or emailing her at [email protected]. Meeting dates, times and locations are as follows:
