Keystone Community Center now has a new, free place for children and teens to hang out for games and entertainment.

The community center, at 601 Bert St. across from Memorial Park Community Center, announced a newly renovated teen game room, which will be open from 5 to 7:30 p.m. after  a free open house event from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Program Coordinator Rachel Bowers said the new game room, complete with new furniture, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game consoles, a pool table, ping-pong table, 55-inch flat screen TV and other games, was designed to allow area teens at the center to stay after their open gym hours from 3-5 p.m.

Bowers said it’s important for teens in the community to have free access to resources that allow them to have fun in a safe environment.

“We had some kids that still wanted to hang around, so we wanted to provide something fun for them to do in a safe environment,” she said. “Basically, any teen in the community can come and use it for free.”

The first 30 teens arriving at the open house will receive a T-shirt. Snacks and drinks will be available. For more information, call 423-434-5749.
