Benefit supper: Bowmantown Ruritan is hosting a crockpot benefit supper Friday August 31 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Bowmantown Ruritan building at 1573 Barkley Rd. in Telford. Proceeds from the supper will benefit a local family. For those who would like to help with the supper, the Ruritan club is looking for community friends to bring a dish. Wedding planning how-to events: Beginning in August, StudioWed Tri-Cities will be hosting a series of free How-to events for couples planning their weddings. Located inside the King Centre, StudioWed Tri-Cities opened in February and now has over 20 event professionals as members. The first “How to Event” will take place on August 21. “Tales of the Timeline” will offer couples the opportunity to receive a free timeline that can be utilized for their wedding festivities, as well as learning how to avoid pitfalls that will throw them off of their timeline. Seating is limited and can be reserved through Eventbrite which can be found on the event facebook page for StudioWed Tri-Cities. Bridal show: Seasons of Hope is hosting The White Rose Boutique Bridal Show on September 9th and October 7th, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The September show will be held at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. The October show will be held at The Model City Event Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. Regular tickets and VIP tickets are available. Proceeds from this exciting fundraising event will be used to support Seasons of Hope by contributing to the nonprofit’s operational expenses as well as some project-based expenses. Picnic in the park for breastfeeding moms: It’s August and time to bring awareness to World Breastfeeding Week (1st through 7th) as well as National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. The goal is to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies. In honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month, Unicoi County Health Department has planned the “Picnic in the Park for Breastfeeding Moms and Moms-to-Be” on Thursday, August 16th between 10:00 am-12:00 pm. The event will be held at the Fishery Park pavilion next to the tennis courts. Drop-in anytime for this free event to network with other breastfeeding moms and obtain resources on topics of interest. There will be light snacks, gift bags and door prizes. The rain date is Thursday, August 30. Hales Community Ruritan Breakfast: Hales Community Ruitan Club will host a country breakfast on Saturday August 25 from 7-10 a.m. at the Jake's Community Ruritan building at 152 Hales Rd. off of Boone’s Creek Road in Jonesborough. Proceeds will be used for community service projects. There will be biscuits and gravy, eggs, fresh sausage, bacon, country ham, pancakes, coffee, orange juice and milk. Cost is $8 at the door. Senior Services seeks instructor for Fit and Toned class: Senior Services at Memorial Park Community Center, 510 Bert St., is seeking an instructor for its hour-long fitness class, which includes cardio intervals and strength training. The Fit and Toned instructor must be 18 or older, hold a current aerobics instructor certificate, be CPR certified, and carry liability insurance. The class is held from 9-10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fish Fry: There will be an “all-you-can-eat” fish fry on Friday, August 17, beginning from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Limestone Ruritan Club, located at 121 Limestone Ruritan Rd. The meal is $12 per person. Church groups are welcome. For large groups please call 257-5995 or 257-6580 and let them know how many will be coming.

Adulting 101- Budgeting at Johnson City Public Library: Registration is currently open for Adulting 101: Budgeting, a class that will be offered on Tuesday, August 21 at 6 p.m. in the Johnson City Public Library’s Computer Center. The class, taught by an instructor from the University of Tennessee Extension Office of Washington County, will cover the basics of personal money management by helping participants create a spending plan. Adulting 101 is a series of programs to help teens and adults develop important life skills.
