Jan. 27, 1937: Johnson City Business College defeated Fall Branch 35-19 in basketball.
Jan. 27, 1958: Searchers found the body of 11-year-old Dorothea Miller along the Holston River bank in Bluff City. Miller and her friend Pamela Harmon, 13, were struck by Southern Railroad train bound for Johnson City as it crossed a trestle two days earlier. Harmon’s body had been discovered the night of the mishap. Reports were that the girls were scurrying to safety when Miller’s foot got caught on the trestle and Harmon rushed back to help.
Jan. 27, 1971: The city was taking orders for souvenir bricks from the old City Hall, which soon to be razed. The Johnson City Press-Chronicle later expanded onto the site.
Jan. 27, 1997: Disney on Ice ended its weeklong series of performances at Freedom Hall Civic Center. More than 19,600 fans enjoyed the shows.
