Oct. 20, 1950: In a Big 5 Conference battle, the Science Hill Hilltoppers defeated the Elizabethton Cyclones 27-6 at Childress Stadium in Elizabethton.
Oct. 20, 1962: The ETSC Bucs defeated Wofford 29-14 at homecoming. Do-it-all quarterback Jimmy Baker scored one touchdown, one field goal, two extra points and passed for a second touchdown. The Bucs led the Ohio Valley Conference with a 3-1 league record.
Oct. 20, 1970: President Richard M. Nixon visited the campus of East Tennessee State University to campaign for Winfield Dunn, who was running for governor and Bill Brock, who was running for Senate.
Oct. 20, 2006: It went down to the wire, but Science Hill managed to secure a spot in the Class 5A playoffs. Quarterback A.J. Tucker’s 15-yard touchdown run with 51 seconds remaining in the game gave the Hilltoppers a dramatic come-from-behind 21-17 Big East Conference win over Knox Karns.
