Jan. 30, 1935: Johnson City officials lamented the slow pace of land acquisition to widen and pave West Market Street between Fall Street and Hillcrest Avenue.
Jan. 30, 1959: U.S. Sen. Albert Gore was the guest speaker at the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner meeting at East Tennessee State College. Gore, father of future senator and Vice President Albert Gore Jr., represented Tennessee in the Senate from 1953-1971.
Jan. 30, 1974: The Watauga Area Mental Health Clinic opened in the former Memorial Hospital Nursing Home building.
