Jan. 1 1923: Mayne Williams Public Library opened. This was the forerunner of the Johnson City Public Library. Today, the building is Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church’s Melting Pot.

Jan. 1, 1951: Steed College of Technology opened.

Jan. 1, 1971: Charles Tyson became City Manager.

Jan. 1, 1997: Dr. Paul Stanton became President of East Tennessee State University.
