Dec. 21, 1941: Famed New York artist Frank Reilly presented Robert L. Fine, President of the Washington County Bar Association, a mural. It showed three early East Tennessee judges: Andrew Jackson, David Campbell, and Hugh Lawson White.
Dec. 21, 1976: Giant Food Markets were ready to help Johnson City families with “Christmas feasting.” The local grocer advertised turkeys for 49 cents per pound, canned yams for 39 cents, 3 pounds of brown sugar for $1, pumpkin pies for 89 cents, 5 pounds of White Lilly flour for 49 cents and 3-pound canned hams for $3.99.
Dec. 21, 2006: Science Hill High School’s Hilltoppers led all the way in a 65-52 Big Nine Conference basketball victory over Volunteer. Future Science Hill Hall of Fame member Omar Wattad led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds. Wattad went on play at Georgetown and UT-Chattanooga before an overseas professional stint. He is now an assistant coach at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate.
