ELIZABETHTON _ Students from East Tennessee State University are the latest to team with the Southern Appalachian Work Center.

Jim Chambers, spokesman for the work center, said ETSU is now a “part of our collegiate trail work and outreach program.” Chambers said the ETSU organization working with SAWC is BOA, which stands for Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure.

Chambers said, “In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, SAWC will coordinate and execute the ETSU Buccaneer Outreach Adventure Program, beginning on 18 August 2020.”

According to its website, Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure is a unique outdoor adventure for new students at East Tennessee State University.

“The scenic Appalachian Mountains, as well as ETSU's campus, will be explored via fun outdoor activities led by Campus Recreation staff. The BOA mission is to provide a unique transitional experience into the ETSU community. The objectives of BOA are to help students gain confidence, build relationships, explore the East Tennessee geographic region while engaging in outdoor activities, and establish a special connection to ETSU.”
