COVID-19: Tennessee cases pass 9,600, deaths at 181

The Tennessee Department of Health on Sunday reported 478 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total to 9,667 since tracking began in March. Sunday’s increase was the state’s largest single-day total to date.

The state also reported three new deaths, bringing the toll to 181.

Labs in the state had performed a total of 147,474 tests as of Sunday’s report, up 6,071 from Saturday’s total of 141,406.

In Northeast Tennessee, the state reported four new cases in Sunday’s figures, bringing the total to 184. NE Tennessee cases by county: Carter, 12; Greene, 41; Hancock, 0; Hawkins, 29; Johnson, 2; Sullivan, 47; Unicoi, 1; and Washington, 52.

None of the state’s three new deaths took place in the upper eight counties. Six fatalities had been reported in Northeast Tennessee in recent weeks: Carter County, 1; Greene County 2; Hawkins County 2; and Sullivan County 1.

The upper eight counties had reported 3,529 negative tests: Carter, 385; Greene, 629; Hancock, 0; Hawkins, 29; Johnson, 57; Sullivan, 883; Unicoi,133; and Washington, 1,413.
