East Tennessee State University’s College of Nursing was ranked high among the best schools in the state offering online registered nurse-to-bachelor of science in nursing programs.

The college’s online program was ranked third in the state by RegisteredNursing.org’s recent 4th Annual Nursing School Program Rankings highlighting the Best Online RN to BSN Programs in Tennessee. ETSU was only ranked behind Baptist College of Health Sciences and Union University.

“We’re really excited to be acknowledged and ranked in any way,” Program Coordinator Mary Campbell said. “I’ve been the coordinator for two years now, and we’ve received several high rankings. That’s exciting for me and I think exciting for our students and college as a whole. We just hope to continue achieving excellence.”

Campbell, who also teaches within the college, said the online nursing program’s flexibility is one of its major benefits for nursing students. She said the program allows students to work around their schedules and finish their courses at their own pace, all while learning under some of the state’s best nursing professors.

“We make it really flexible for the working nurse to continue on with their education,” she said.

“On top of that, I think the faculty we have teaching in our program is extremely experienced. Doctoral-prepared professors that have years and years of experience teaching and working in this program,” she added. “I think that really benefits the students … I think those are some of our strong suits.”

The ETSU College of Nursing has previously performed well in national rankings for its other program offerings, including its Doctor of Nursing Practice program, for which it won the top spot as RegisteredNursing.org’s Best DNP Program in 2019. That program was ranked the 10th-most-affordable program by BestHealthDegrees.com in March. The college was also ranked 11th in the nation among top accredited online nursing schools by Learn.org in March.

Campbell said rankings such as these are a testament to the quality of ETSU’s nursing programs and the faculty who “work tirelessly” to help earn this recognition.

“I think we are all dedicated. We are 100% dedicated to this college, the university and our students,” she said.
