COVID-19: 448 new cases, 9 new deaths in Tennessee

The Tennessee Department of Health on Wednesday reported 448 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total to 7,842 since tracking began in March.

Of those new cases, two were in Northeast Tennessee, bringing the total to 166. Both were in Sullivan County.

NETN cases by county: Carter, 5; Greene, 37; Hancock, 0; Hawkins, 28; Johnson, 2; Sullivan, 47; Unicoi, 1; and Washington, 46.

The statewide numbers resulted from 6,798 new tests — a total of 114,980 compared to 108,182 reported as of Tuesday. Over the weekend, the state offered several testing sites open to anyone for the first time.

The state also reported nine new deaths, bringing that toll to 166; 775 hospitalizations for an increase of 15; and 4,012 recoveries for an increase of 437.

None of the state’s new deaths was reported in Northeast Tennessee. Six fatalities had been reported in Northeast Tennessee in recent weeks: Carter County (1) Greene County (2), Hawkins County (2) and Sullivan County (1).

The state listed 131 of Northeast Tennessee’s cases as having recovered: Carter, 3; Greene 24; Hawkins, 24; Johnson, 2; Sullivan, 40; Unicoi, 1; and Washington, 37.
