North Carolina counties along the Northeast Tennessee line were reporting two cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as of Tuesday morning, according to a map from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Both cases were in Watauga County, which contains Boone, Beech Mountain and Blowing Rock. Appalachian State University is located in Boone.

Ashe, Mitchell, Avery and Yancey counties were reporting no cases.

Buncombe County — which contains Asheville, Western North Carolina’s largest municipality — was reporting five cases. Asheville is about an hour’s drive south of Johnson City.
