After the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development approved a $500,000 grant to Rural Health Services Consortium, Inc., U.S. Rep. Phil Roe, R-Johnson City, voiced his support in a Thursday statement.

Roe said the nation’s struggling rural health care system should further utilize telemedicine technology to expand health care access to more people remotely.

“This grant will help RHSC expand their reach into communities with limited access to care because of location. Thanks to this award, there will be interactive video equipment installed in 17 rural communities serving around 3,300 patients. I look forward to seeing this innovative system better the lives of those living in rural East Tennessee,” Roe said in a Thursday news release.
