Ballad Health officially opened its new Health Resources Center Friday morning after leaving behind its old location in The Mall at Johnson City in June.

The finishing touches on the new location were completed shortly before the ribbon cutting, according to Health Resources Center Manager Laurel McKinney.

McKinney said the staff is excited about working in close proximity to people interested in optimizing their health and wellness at the center, which is now located in the Wellness Center on Med Tech Parkway.

“We’ve been wanting to be here for years,” she said. “Being in the Wellness Center, we are around people who are interested more about their health, so we’re able to reach that population with information about health and wellness and encourage people to reach their optimal health.”

The center was first established more than two decades ago. Back then, McKinney said it mainly served as a screening center.

Over the years, the center has served residents by providing screening services, as well as consultations with nurses and classes discussing various health topics. The staff also visits schools, civic groups, churches and other organizations in the community to provide health education.

“It has evolved quite a bit since then,” McKinney said ahead of the ribbon cutting.
