Sanders garnered 283 votes, or 36.38% of the total votes cast in the primary, to Biden’s 265 votes, or 34.06 percent.
Michael Bloomberg finished third, with 117 votes, or 15.04%, followed by Elizabeth Warren in fourth place with 56 votes or 7.2%.
In the Republican primary, President Donald Trump received 1,991 votes or 97.89 percent of total votes cast. Twenty-two Republican voters, or 1.08 percent, were uncommitted in the presidential primary. GOP challengers Joe Walsh received 13 votes and Bill Weld received 8 votes.
Locally, Unicoi County Property Assessor Teresa Kinsler was unopposed in the Republican primary and received 1,814 votes. With no Democratic or write-in challengers in the August general election, the primary win returned Kinsler to office for a second four-year term.
