The site plan calls for a 7,000 square-foot commercial building to be erected next to the assisted living center and across the street from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. The facility will have three businesses. Two will be restaurants, while the center space will be a retail business.
Jonathan B. Lewis of Highlands Engineering was the engineer on the project and was present to answer questions. The developer is KBM Commercial Properties of Bristol.
In other matters, the Planning Commission heard a request to rezone a part of the 100 and 200 Block of East F Street from high-density residential to medium density. Most of the neighborhood near T.A. Dugger Jr. High School is zoned medium-density residential.
The neighborhood is characterized by homes and lots that are bigger than the average for Elizabethton and properties that considerably exceed the market value when sold.
Currently, one side of the street is zoned medium density and the other side is high density. Most neighbors feel the entire neighborhood should be zoned medium density.
The commission voted to further study the rezoning request and discuss it at the July meeting.
