Teresa Bowman was elected in August to serve as register of deeds in Washington County. She has worked in the office for more than 15 years, and previously served as the bookkeeper.

She describes herself as “definitely” a dog person: “I am the owner of a very spoiled dog named Sawyer. He's a mini-schnauzer.”

Bowman says “Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors” is her favorite holiday movie.

As for dressing or stuffing on Thanksgiving?

“I'm a southern girl, so dressing is my preference.”

1.) How do you describe your job as register of deeds to people who may not be familiar with the office?

“The register of deeds is an elected office that serves as the record keeper for all of Washington County's legal documents. We record and preserve not only real property records, but any legal document required by law to be recorded.”

2.) What do you find most satisfying about your job?

“Being able to serve and help the public and having the voters’ confidence that has allowed me to do so. I love my job, and I look forward to coming to work every day. I'm fortunate enough to have a staff that are not only my employees, but are also like a family.”

3.) What do you do to relieve stress?

“I enjoy spending time with my family. Recently, becoming a grandmother has brought a lot of joy into my life.”

4.) Where is your ideal vacation destination?

“The Caribbean. I love being where there is sunshine and blue water.”

5.) What's the best advice you've ever been given?

“I have been given a lot of good advice over the years, but there are two things that I try to live my life by. One being the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And the other being: God first, family second and then work. That is how I try to live my life.”
