ELIZABETHTON — The Minnesota Twins and the Elizabethton City Council appear to be on track for an agreement of the future renovation of Joe O’Brien Field, the home of the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League.

Approval of the renovation project is on the agenda for the council’s meeting for Thursday night. Under the agreement, the city would deposit $1,972,110 in an escrow account. The Minnesota Twins would provide $800,800. Minnesota would pay 10 annual installments of $50,800 due at the start of each of the next 10 seasons. Minnesota would also spend $300,000 for player development equipment.

Elizabethton’s share will come from a bond issue that had originally been taken for the stadium renovation, but when the deal appeared to have stalled last year, that money was being considered for police station expansion and other projects.
