Solemnly swearing to perform with fidelity the duties of the offices to which they were newly elected were Mayor Garland “Bubba” Evely, 1st District Commissioner Jamie Harris, 2nd District Commissioner Matthew Rice, 3rd District Commissioner Stephen Hendrix and school board member Tammy Edwards Tipton.
Also taking the oath of office were five of the six returning county commissioners — Jason Harris, Loren Thomas, John Mosley, Marie Rice and Glenn White; three returning school board members, Cathy Thomas, Steven Scott and Steven Willis; Sheriff Mike Hensley; County Road Superintendent Terry Haynes; Trustee Paul Berry; County Clerk Mitzi Bowen; Register of Deeds Debbie Tittle and County Court Clerk Darren Shelton.
Several deputy trustees, deputy clerks, a new sheriff’s deputy and several corrections officers also took their oaths in front of a crowd of fellow county employees and family members of the newly elected who came to witness the ceremony.
Former County Commissioner J.N. Harris, who was there to see his son, Jamie Harris, sworn in as a commissioner told the crowd it was good to see “such a group of people together” and encouraged the newly sworn officeholders to work together to make the county stronger.
Outgoing Mayor Greg Lynch wished officeholders good luck in their future and told them it been an honor to have been among them during his 12 years in the mayor’s office.
