ELIZABETHTON — Boys and girls who like big trucks are invited to come to Cat Island Park on Wednesday, June 20, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for Truck City, sponsored by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department and the Elizabethan/Carter County Public Library.

Children will be able to get in the driver’s seat and enjoy a hands-on big steering wheel experience with big vehicles of all kinds.

These will include the city’s biggest vehicles, from emergency services, fire trucks, construction trucks, transportation, street and sanitation, all in one place. There will also be big trucks from B P & G Materials.

Another joint event of the parks and library will take place on Tuesday, July 17. It is Arts in the Park and will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Edwards Island. The children should enjoy this one because it is guaranteed to get messy. Mothers are advised to make sure everyone wears appropriate clothing that can get stained and painted.

There are also a series of special events being planned for adults at the Recreation Center. Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Kelly Kitchens said these events will be taking place at the center on Tuesdays, but on different Tuesdays each month.

The classes are designed to teach unique skills. The first event will be a course on cross stitching to be held Tuesday, June 19, at the Rec Center from 5-7:30 p.m. Those interested in the class should call ahead for reservations at 547-6441.
