On Monday, the Erwin Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to accept a $115,500 bid for paving along Park, Boyd and north and south Willow streets.
The bid was submitted by Construction Asphalt Paving Services of Unicoi and was the lowest of two bid proposals received for the project.
The board accepted the proposal on the recommendation of Public Works Director Riki Forney, who told the board two paving companies, CAPS and Summers-Taylor, had submitted bids that fell with the project’s budget and specifications.
The town requested the bids in late August after a previous request for paving proposals failed to draw any bids that fell within the project’s budget.
Forney said both companies submitted “preferred” project proposals that included two inches of milling and two inches of asphalt and “alternative” project proposals that includes three inches of milling and one inch of asphalt.
CAPS’ bids on the two proposals were $141,900 and $115,500, and Summers Taylor’s bids were $147,000 and $135,000.
Forney recommended the alternative projected proposal, saying it met Tennessee Department of Transportation standards.
