Open house set for Golf Amplified

KINGSPORT — Pretty soon you’ll be able to play golf at Pebble Beach without even leaving the Tri-Cities.

Chris Woods, a former assistant pro at Cattails at MeadowView is about to embark on a new golf adventure called Golf Amplified. It’s an indoor golf simulator with a technologically advanced practice green.

An open house is being held Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Everybody who shows up will be able to try out the simulator and putt on the green for free.

Golf Amplified is in Cattails’ old maintenance building, which once housed Reedy Creek Vineyard.

The putting green is where Woods says most of the fun will be had. It’s 20 by 30 feet and has seven holes. With Puttview technology, projectors put lines on the green, showing the way each putt will break.

“The putting green really sets this apart,” Woods said. “The technology is something. We show you the lines and then we take them away. The greatest putters in the world already see those lines.

“People are going to want to hang out on this putting green. I’ve never seen any training aid help people putt like this. I’ve been like a kid in a candy store.”

In the simulator, golfers can play as many as 80 different courses, including Bethpage Black, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No. 2 and Royal Portrush, the site of next year’s British Open.

Golfers are also able to play games on the simulator.

Woods finished working at Cattails in May and began renovating the property in May. He’s hoping to open for real on Aug. 8.

Wednesday’s open house is a way for Woods and his crew to show the public what will be going on.

“This is like our practice round,” he said. “We want people to come in and putt a few on the green and then go to the simulator and play a few holes. I think it’s going to be an amazing event space for people, and place they can come and practice.”
