Putt-putt tournament a popular Fun Fest draw

Like most Kingsport Fun Fest events, the putt-putt tournament has been around since the inception.

“It’s great to see everyone out here,” said Putt-Putt Fun Center co-owner Dan Estes. “We get kids out here that have never played before and it’s always good to see the children out here. This is one of our bigger days of the year. At about nine o’clock this morning, we had over 120 people playing on the course.”

With nine different age divisions including a championship, there are a multitude of players ranging from novice to professional.

Most of the players throughout the first part of the day were kids that were under the age of 12.

“Once we opened up the tournament at about 8:50 a.m., there was a flood of people that came in,” Estes said. “There seems to be another wave every 10 minutes, but that’s the way we like it.”

Estes estimates that there could be over 1,500 patrons who pay a visit and play a round over the course of the day.

Each tournament lasted throughout the day, running from nine o’clock in the morning until six in the evening. The best score at the end of the day won a trophy and bragging rights for the year.

There were great putts made all over the course and joyous celebrations when a hole-in-one was made. There were also a few groans when an easy putt was missed amongst a group of friends or family.

The event is a wholesome competition and terrific fun for the whole family — so mark your calendar next year to participate in one of the marquee events of the Fun Fest event schedule.
