Fast start propels Daniel Boone over Morristown East

MORRISTOWN — Daniel Boone jumped out to a three-touchdown lead in the first half and held on for a 28-21 win over Morristown East on Friday night at Burke-Toney Stadium.

Kaleb Worley and Phillip Page connected on two passing touchdowns in the second quarter.

Brennan Blair scored on a 2-yard run on the Trailblazers’ opening possession. Boone added to the lead early in the second quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Worley to Page.

The lead was increased to 21-0 after Devon White powered in for another score. Morristown East came back with 65-yard touchdown pass play from Junior Henson to Austin Williams before Worley and Page responded with another score and a 28-7 Boone lead at the half.

Henson threw two more touchdowns in the second half, including one to Braxton Dalton with 3:42 remaining before the 'Blazers held on for the win.

Dobyns-Bennett 35, Jefferson County 0

DANDRIDGE — The Dobyns-Bennett defense had its third consecutive shutout in the road win over the Patriots.

Junior quarterback Zane Whitson threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns, a 62-yard pass to Tyler Tesnear and a 20-yarder to Phillip Armitage. Tesnear also had 18 rushes for 80 yards and a touchdown, while Armitage added seven carries for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Whitson added 48 rushing yards as the Indians outgained the Patriots 197-106 on the ground.

The Indians defense limited Jefferson County quarterback Tanner Atkins to 52 passing and 30 rushing yards.

Greeneville 70, Sullivan Central 6

BLOUNTVILLE — The Greene Devils rung up 35 points in the first quarter en route to an emphatic win Region 1-4A win over Sullivan Central.

Drew Gregg was 6-for-12 with 84 yards and two scores for Greeneville while Blayne Ferguson ran for 74 yards on six attempts and two scores.

Greeneville had 331 yards total offense with 223 of it on the ground.

The Cougars had three fumbles, but lost just one of them. The lone score for Sullivan Central came late in the third quarter when Will Nottingham hit Bryson Crabtree on a 57-yard touchdown pass.

Tennessee High 42, Volunteer 7

CHURCH HILL — The Vikings got out to a fast start of their own with 35 points in the first quarter in a Region 1-5A road win against Volunteer.

Cole McBrayer had three touchdowns in the opening period to three different receivers. Reece Proffitt, Trevor Dowdell and Isaiah Smith all had a touchdown catch.

Levonn Montgomery and Dominik Daggs each had a rushing touchdown for Tennessee High.

The lone score for Volunteer was an Eli Dorton 75-yard touchdown reception from Garrison Barrett late in the game.

Elizabethton 31, William Blount 17

MARYVILLE — After trailing at the half and being tied at the end of the third quarter, the Cyclones earned a hard-fought road, non-region win against William Blount.

Elizabethton fumbled on its own 1-yard line and set up the Governors to go back up 17-10 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Two key pick-sixes late by Jake Roberts and Deuce Morton late in the game made the difference for Elizabethton.

Parker Hughes had a 43-yard touchdown reception. Bryson Rollins had a passing and rushing touchdown, finishing 12 for 17 with 164 yards through the air.

Trinity Academy 61, Asheville Independent 0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Titus Brooks accounted for three touchdown passes and John Kollie had 78 special-teams yards, resulting in a pair of scores.

Nathan Hyde contributed 85 rushing yards to the victory and Eli Allgood topped the Knights defensively with 10 tackles.

Cherokee 33, Cocke County 26

NEWPORT — Collin Trent completed all seven of his passes on the night for 87 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a score on the ground, accounting for 28 yards.

Trent Price had a big day on the ground as well with 16 carries for 110 yards and one touchdown.

Jonas Leeper had five catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns as well for the Chiefs and he also had a rushing touchdown.
