East Tennessee State officially announced that it has signed two transfer quarterbacks for its football team.

In moves that had been previously reported, Coastal Carolina’s Chance Thrasher and Miami’s Cade Weldon have joined the Bucs program.

“Bringing Chance and Cade on board allows us to be deeper at the quarterback position,” ETSU coach Randy Sanders said in a news release. “I am excited to get them in the weight room and on the field so we can further evaluate where they stand heading into the fall.”

The two transfers join three holdovers, Trey Mitchell, Tyrique Sandusky and Cameron Lewis, at the quarterback position.

The Bucs lost both of their quarterbacks from last year. Austin Herink graduated after starting most of the previous four seasons. Logan Marchi, who had transferred from Temple and briefly started ahead of Herink, has left the program.

Thrasher, who threw for 4,833 yards and 44 touchdowns while in high school in Suwanee, Georgia, redshirted his first year at Coastal Carolina and then missed his second due to a season-ending injury. He played in two games last season.

Weldon is from Tampa, Florida, where he was rated as high as No. 19 in the country as a pro-style quarterback. As a senior, he passed for 3,135 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Weldon, whose father Casey was the 1991 Heisman Trophy runner-up at Florida State, played in four games for Miami last season.
