Miami quarterback transferring to ETSU

Randy Sanders might have answered the biggest question facing his East Tennessee State football team.

Cade Weldon, a quarterback who began his career at Miami, is transferring to ETSU. His Twitter account lists “ETSU #17” under his name.

Weldon was initially recruited to Miami by Mark Richt. When Richt was fired and Manny Diaz hired, Weldon was left far down the depth chart. He announced his intention to transfer on March 18.

ETSU has not made any announcement about the move.

Weldon red-shirted the 2017 season and played in four games last year for the Hurricanes, attempting only three passes. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Weldon’s father, Casey, was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1991 while playing for Florida State.

ETSU is trying to replace Austin Herink, who started every game in his first three years and the final eight of his senior season.
