The Pioneers’ junior quarterback was chosen as a Tennessee Titans Class 5A Mr. Football finalist Monday, taking the next step from the semifinalist honor he received last week. Larkins joins Oak Ridge quarterback/cornerback Herbert Booker and Knox Fulton’s linebacker/running back Deshawn Page on the short list. The winner will announced at an awards dinner Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2018 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.
Larkins has passed for over 3,800 yards this season with 40 touchdowns while leading the Pioneers to a record of 12-0. They will play at Knoxville Central on Friday in a state quarterfinal contest.
For his career, Larkins has over 8,000 yards passing and has totaled 69 touchdown passes.
