KINGSPORT — Sullivan North athletic director Robbie Norris has been a fixture at Sullivan North for more than two decades. On Friday night before the Golden Raiders took the field for the football game against Cosby, Norrris was honored with the “Excellence in Coaching Award.”

Norris spent 12 seasons as the Golden Raiders’ football coach. He accumulated 85 wins during his tenure, which the most in school history. Norris and his Raiders took home a conference and regional titles in both 2011 and 2017.

Norris was also North’s offensive coordinator dating to the early 1990s. He also played for the Raiders before turning to coaching.

Norris stepped down as coach following the 2017 season to devote his time to administration at his alma mater.

“Sullivan North means the world to me. The community, school, everything. There’s no better place to work,” he said. “It’s a special place. Once a Raider, always a Raider.”

“The moments I enjoy the most are seeing the kids graduate and then come back to see us. That’s when you know you’ve done something good.”

Sullivan North won Friday night’s game in convincing fashion, 48-0.
