Carson-Newman picked up three local football players during Wednesday’s National Signing Day with the Daniel Boone duo of Bailey Presnell and Zach Taylor and Hampton running back Hunter Davenport.

Presnell, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman, was named to the Tennessee Football Coaches Association All-State team his senior season. He was also selected as the Mountain Lakes Conference Lineman of the Year for a second straight season.

Taylor was a 6-foot-2, 220-pound tight end for Daniel Boone on offense, but really shined as a defensive end where he ranked second among Northeast Tennessee Players for tackles for a loss.

Presnell will be paving the way for Davenport, who had 1,618 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns and 252 receiving yards and five touchdowns. For his career, he had 3,762 rushing yards and 59 touchdowns, and 800 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Lyric Schmidt will also play at the next level, but the female kicker at Sullivan South, will play soccer instead for Western Kentucky. She went 41-for-46 on extra-point attempts and 2-for-4 on field-goal attempts last season. She also plays forward for the FC Alliance Knoxville Club Team. In addition, she also runs the 100 meters and 200 meters and is on the 4x100 and 4x200 relays for the South track team.

Sullivan East had three student-athletes sign to compete at the collegiate level. Sierra Arnold signed to play college volleyball with the University of the Cumberlands, Ethan May signed to play golf with Milligan College and Braden Perry signed to be a member of the bass-fishing team at Carson Newman.
