Users can participate in the Burger Throw-down online competition to discover which food joint claims victory in the burger battle. Players must register on the Johnson City Press contest website to participate.
“There are 16 different restaurants featured in this contest,” said Johnson City Press Contest and Promotions Manager David Hyde. “It’s like a basketball bracket. The winner of each of the eight brackets proceeds to the next round.”
What does the last-standing restaurant win? Bragging rights, of course.
“This competition helps keep us local,” said Hyde. “It also helps these businesses reach out to a new audience. You really don’t know that some of these places have a game burger.”
Promoting local business ensures that locals stay up-to-date with all Johnson City has to offer — including a good burger. It also helps the area’s natives introduce newcomers to fresh local food.
“I have family in Knoxville, and whenever they come to visit, that’s the first thing out of their mouths— ‘where’s a good burger?’” said Hyde. “And that can be a hard thing to find. This competition helps our audience know what our local restaurants have to offer.”
In addition to bragging rights, the winning restaurant will also be reviewed by the Johnson City Press’s mystery diner.
The “Burger Throw-down” spawned from the Press’s Readers’ Choice, a business competition that relies on readers to award local businesses for superior services or products.
“This is the 12th year for the Readers’ Choice at the Press,” said Hyde. “And it’s our second year promoting competitions online.”
Join in on the Burger Throw-down until June 29.
Entries and votes should not be mailed or delivered to the Johnson City Press office.
