Bobby Allen Pennington, 41, Ashe County, was already jailed in the Ashe County Detention Center when Boone police served him with warrants charging him with felony burning an uninhabited house and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
About 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 26, the Boone Fire and Police departments responded to a house fire at 651 Old East King St. and determined that someone had set multiple fires within the structure, according to a news release issued Wednesday. The house had been vacant for the last four years and was a common area for homeless people to be found sleeping and taking shelter from the weather.
After collecting evidence in a joint investigation, authorties identified Pennington, who was jailed on a parole violation from earlier on charges of burning personal property and calling in a false bomb report on a public building.
Pennington was taken before an Ashe County Magistrate, who issued him a court date of Feb. 14. He was held under a $30,000 secured bond.
This case was still under further investigation along with three other suspected arson cases within the last six months. Both departments have several other arson cases under investigation and asked anyone with information about the cases to contact the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6922.
