ELIZABETHTON — Fire destroyed a home in Upper Stoney Creek on Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported at 6:50 a.m. at a house at 2465 Highway 91.

No one was home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported.

Authorities shut down a section of Highway 91 near the fire for several hours while the firefighters worked to extinguish it.

Chief Jack Buckles of the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters from the Stoney Creek Department, the Hampton-Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Department, the Watauga Volunteer Fire Department and the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded.

Investigators have not yet been able to determine what caused the fire. Firefighters said electricity to the house was supposed to be shut off, and no one was supposed to be living there.

Once the scene cools some, they will be able to investigate thoroughly to try to find an ignition source.
