UPDATE: Interstate cleared of multiple vehicle crash, traffic flowing as usual

A six-car crash brought eastbound Interstate 26 traffic between Gray and Boones Creek to a standstill for a time Friday afternoon.

The scene was later cleared and traffic was flowing in the late afternoon.

According to emergency radio traffic, multiple people, one of which appeared to be a young child, were transported from the scene of the crash to area hospitals.

One vehicle was severely damaged in the incident and could be seen in the right side ditch next to the roadway. One of the vehicles involved appeared to be a tractor-trailer truck towing an empty flatbed truck.

Johnson City police, Washington County/Johnson City emergency medical services and firefighters responded to the scene.

No information was available as to what caused the initial collision.
