A resident and her cat escaped unharmed from a fire Wednesday morning in a Johnson City apartment building.

Johnson City Fire Department Lt. Mark Beasley said there were no injuries reported from the fire in an upper apartment at 108 1/2 Wilson Ave., and a cause has not yet been determined.

Three engines responded at approximately 11 a.m. to the fire, and firefighters had it under control within minutes. Smoke billowed from upstairs apartments as the firefighters blew a fan into the building to push it out.

An upstairs resident watching the firefighters outside the building said she smelled smoke and saw a thick wall of smoke when she opened her apartment door. She grabbed her cat, exited the building and called 911.
