Police investigating suicide at Gatlinburg Space Needle

Authorities are investigating a suicide at the Gatlinburg Space Needle on Monday evening, according to a news release.

The Gatlinburg Police Department said it received a call about 5:40 p.m. that someone had fallen from the popular tourist attraction that overlooks the Gatlinburg Parkway, local ski lift, resorts and the Great Smoky Mountains. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a white male in his 50s.

"The investigation revealed that the man had jumped from the observation deck of the Space Needle in an apparent suicide," according to the release.
