ELIZABETHTON—St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 815 S. Second St., will welcome the new bishop of East Tennessee this morning at 11. The community is invited to a banquet celebrating the visit following the worship service.

This will be Brian Lee Cole and his family’s first visit to the Elizabethton church since he was named the bishop on Dec. 2, 2017, in Knoxville. Cole has served in parishes in Asheville, N.C., and Lexington, Ky. The Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee is comprised of 16,000 members in 50 parishes from Northeast Tennessee to Knoxville and Chattanooga.

Cole will lead celebrations at St. Thomas, baptizing and welcoming new members of St. Thomas and also dedicating the memorial rose garden.

“We welcome all God’s children to this place of beauty and love,” said Rev. Timothy Holder, St. Thomas’ priest and pastor. “We stand as a house of prayer for all people.”
